TOKYO AIRPORT ALLOWING FLIGHTS TO LEAVE BUT NOT LAND

(AGI) Tokyo - Following the massive 8.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Japan, Tokyo's Narita Airport has partially, reopened, allowing a number of flights to depart, with no arrivals allowed. About 10,000 people are blocked at Narita Airport while 1,100 more are in Sendai, where the landing strips have been flooded by the 10 metre high wave that hit the coast of Japan following the violent earthquake. More than 130 flights, both domestic and international, have now been cancelled leaving over 30,000 passengers stranded. The Ministry of Transport has announced that Narita, Iwate Hanamaki, Yamagata and Aomori Airports have been temporarily closed, while this does not apply to Sendai
